When it comes to African American skin care and others with darker complexions however, there are a few skin care problems that are much more prevalent.

Here are five of the most common African American skin care
issues…

Acne

Acne is a chronic disorder characterized by excess production of oil from sebaceous glands causing the hair follicles generally on the face, chest and back to become plugged. Pimples, papules, pustules and comedone, (black heads and white heads) cysts and infected abscesses can be treated in acne. Acne affects most teenagers to some extent. However, the disease is not restricted to any age group; adults in their 20s - even into their 40s - can get acne. In regards to African American skin care, acne may result in long lasting discolorations of the skin. Therapy is the same for all skin types but it is very important to use topical agents that minimize irritation of the
skin.

Ingrown Hairs of the Beard (Razor Bumps)

Another African American skin care issue is Ingrown Hairs. African Americans have curved hair shafts and this is true of beard hair as well as other body hair. Often after a very close shave, the pointed hair may curl back into the skin and it may pierce the wall of the hair follicle, causing a reaction resulting in bumps called "pseudofolliculitis barbae." If you can, growing a beard is a viable option for helping this.

African American men should try different methods of hair removal if they suffer with ingrown hairs, which are also called razor bumps. Shaving with a special type of safety razor that does not permit a very close shave may help. Do not stretch the skin during shaving and don't shave on a daily basis. If hairs become ingrown, lift them up with an alcohol-cleaned needle (don't tweeze or pluck) just before shaving. Sometimes using a rough washcloth before shaving can help to loosen hairs about to grow inward.

Hair removal chemicals do remove hair but should only be used once a week. They must be wiped off promptly according to package directions and wash your face twice with soap and water immediately afterwards to guard against irritation.

Permanent removal of hair performed by an experienced Electrolysis Operator may be an effective solution and there are new medicated creams that may slow hair growth and help. Be sure to consult your dermatologist about treatment options.

Variations in Skin Color

African American skin has larger melanosomes (cells that determine skin color ) and the melanosomes contain more of the pigment melanin than those found in white skin. Because of the protective effect of melanin, African-Americans are better protected against skin cancer and premature wrinkling from sun exposure.

Post inflammatory hyper pigmentation is quite common in dark skinned individuals, even after minor trauma. An area of the skin may darken after an injury such as a cut or a scrape, or after certain skin disorders such as acne. To avoid or reduce post inflammatory hyper pigmentation, avoid picking, harsh scrubbing, and abrasive treatments. Darkened areas of skin may take many months or years to fade, although topical (surface) bleaching agents may help. Also chemical peels (using alpha and beta hydroxyl acids) and microdermabrasion can be helpful.”

Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a common African American skin care condition where pigment cells are destroyed and irregular white patches on the skin appear. Many dermatologists think that the cause of this common disorder is an autoimmune process, where the cells of the body attack the pigment producing cells.

The extent of color loss differs with each person; some people lose pigment over their entire bodies. Some patients with vitiligo do not regain skin color, however some cases of vitiligo do repigment. See your dermatologist as soon as possible, as the extent of the disease will determine the appropriate treatment. .

Several skin care methods are used to treat vitiligo, but none have been perfected. Topical medications, including corticosteroids and new non-steroid anti-inflammatory preparations are commonly used. In cases where vitiligo affects most of the body, it is sometimes best to destroy the remaining normal pigment. A dermatologist can determine what treatment is best based on the extent of the disease.

Keloids

When the scar from a cut or wound extends and spreads beyond the size of the original wound, it is known as a keloid. Keloids may vary in size, shape, and location. They occur more often in brown or black skin making this a very common African American skin care issue.

Keloids are a common skin care issue on the ear lobes, neck, chest, or back, and usually occur after an injury or surgery. Occasionally they occur spontaneously, especially on the mid-chest area. Keloids often follow inflammation caused by acne on the face, chest, and back.

Keloids may be painful both physically and emotionally (from a cosmetic perspective), but it's important to address keloids primarily as a medical, rather than cosmetic condition.

Depending on the location of the keloid, skin care treatment may consist of cortisone injections, pressure, silicone gels, surgery, laser treatment, or radiation therapy. Unfortunately, keloids tend to return and even enlarge, especially after treatment with surgery.

5 Cheap Tanning Lotion Tips For Summer

By: James Allen

With summer approaching, it's time to pull out the tanning lotion yet again. It's not cheap though, is it? So here are a few tips to help make your bottle of bronze stretch a little further this tanning season.

Pay attention to application. To apply tanning products most effeciently, begin working on a small area. Then, softly and in an even manner, rub in the product - but not too generously.

If you work your way out to other areas in a swirling, but still gentle and even rub, rather than going in an up-and-down direction, you will stretch your product further and still have the same level of effectiveness.

Getting to those hard to reach areas like your back may require an extra hand.

Diluting is OK. When using these lotions on more sensitive areas like your knees, feet, hands and elbows, either dilute first with a moisturizing lotion or use very small amounts when gently rubbing in.

Rubbing with a make-up sponge applicator works well for these areas, too. Doing this will help prevent build up, irritation and waste.

Remember to use sunblock too! Many tanning lotions do not contain any level of SPF protection. Remember the basics, long and light clothes and high SPF sunblock to protect your skin at the same time.

If you make an effort and follow these tips, a little bit of lotion will go a long way, so slow and steady does it.

What Exactly Is Jojoba Oil ?

What Exactly Is Jojoba Oil And Why Is It Used So Much In Skin Care Products
by Glen Jansen

Back in 1822, a small shrub was discovered in the desert near Baja California by a botanist named H. F. Link. Mr. Link named this new plant after a fellow botanist from the U.K. named T. W. Simmonds. The proper named of the Jojoba plant is Simmondsia chinensis. It wasn't until after the U.S. banned whale hunting that this plant started to be cultivated. Up until then, the oil of whales was used in skin care products and cosmetics. After the ban, much research was done to find more suitable replacements for the skin and hair care industries.

The Jojoba plant produces a bean pod and it was discovered that heating the beans caused an oil to be secreted. The desert peoples of Southern California and Mexico had long been using this oil to treat skin conditions and cuts. The Japanese did some research on Jojoba oil and found it to be nontoxic to the human skin. In addition, soon it was known the amazing properties of this oil.

Jojoba oil is actually a wax that is liquid at room temperatures. The 'oil' has similar chemical makeup to the sebum oil that our skin produces naturally. In fact, it is one of the most easily absorbed vegetable oils available today. Because of this, it was soon used to produce all kinds of hair and skin care products.

The oil is wonderful for people who suffer from sensitive skin conditions, including psoriasis and eczema. It helps soften your skin and when applied to your hair will increase its shine.

It is also known to help reduce wrinkles and other lines associated with aging. In addition, it helps promote the growth of new skin cells. It even has some anti-bacterial qualities too.

Because of these amazing properties, there is no wonder it is being used in the manufacturing of all kinds of hair products, replenishing skin care products, wrinkle reduction treatments, acne control products and even cosmetics. You can find the oil for sale individually too. A 4 oz bottle can be purchased for as little as $8 and can be used to make your own moisturizing cream at home.

Take your favorite essential oil, such as lavender, and add 40 to 50 drops to a 4 oz bottle. Apply to liberally to your skin and rub until it has been absorbed.

The Jojoba plant was an important and necessary discovery. Its amazing properties help people all over the world look better, feel better about themselves and helps people who suffer from disabilitating skin conditions. If you purchase it, look for organically grown Jojoba oil and make sure it is pressed and not chemically extracted.

The Author

Taking care of your skin early is the best way to prevent aging of your skin. Combat winter skin woes with these tips from the ancient healing tradition of ayurveda:

Drink lots of water. Internal hydration keeps skin cells plump and healthy. Water also helps transport nutrients to skin cells, keeping them nourished. According to ayurvedic healers, water should be at room temperature or slightly warm to avoid hampering digestion. Water-rich vegetables like leafy greens and green-skinned squashes are great for internal hydration as well as skin nourishment. Avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks, which are dehydrating.

Cold weather can cause the body’s systems to stagnate. Eating warm cooked foods, drinking warm water or herb/spice teas and moderate daily exercise can help improve circulation, digestion and elimination, keeping skin healthy and clear.

Heated homes, workplaces and automobiles can wreak havoc on skin. Turn heat down to the lowest level that you are comfortable with. Supplement moisture balance in your environment with the use of room humidifiers. Moisture balance in the environment also helps prevent dry nasal passages and eyes.

The rough, dry nature of Vata dosha, winter’s dominant energy, can be pacified by including some healthy fats in your daily diet. Ayurvedic healers recommend ghee (clarified butter). Olive oil is another excellent choice. Blanched, soaked almonds offer lipid support as well as nourishment.

The thought of a long, hot bath on a cold winter day can be appealing, but over-exposure to hot water can dry skin out even more. Keep baths or showers short, limit them to one per day and use lukewarm, not hot, water. If you have Vata skin, add a few drops of bath oil to your bath.

Put away that bar of soap or shower gel, and switch to a milder, gentler cleanser for both face and body. Soap can irritate and exacerbate dry skin conditions. Ayurvedic healers recommend ground oatmeal or chickpea flour mixed with a little milk. If your skin is naturally dry, add some almond meal and a few drops of aloe vera or sesame oil. Don’t scrub excessively, and dab skin with a soft towel after the bath or shower--just enough to remove excess moisture.

A good moisturizer, suitable for your skin type, is a must in winter, to keep skin lubricated. For best results, apply the moisturizer to damp skin immediately after cleansing, to help lock in surface moisture. Pay attention to knees, elbows, hands and feet, which tend to be drier than the rest of the body. If your skin is naturally oily, a light application is best to avoid clogging pores. Dry Vata skin benefits from deep-layer lipid support several times a week. Ayurvedic healers recommend facial oils blended especially for Vata skin that nourish and protect while they lubricate.

Pay extra attention to hands and feet, where skin can crack and peel when dry. Always apply moisturizer after you wash your hands. Limit exposure to water by wearing gloves when you do chores such as washing dishes. A light application of massage oil right before you go to bed can keep skin on extremities lubricated and also help you fall asleep faster. If your skin is naturally dry, soak feet in warm water for 10 minutes, then apply shea butter to heels and soles and wear socks before you go to bed.

Do not forget adequate sun protection for exposed skin, even if the sun feels milder during the winter. If you’re out on the slopes, remember that snow reflects the sunlight, doubling the damaging effect of the sun’s rays. Wear a natural lip balm to protect your lips.

Weekly exfoliation is important to remove dead skin cells and prevent skin from looking dull. But make sure you use a very gentle exfoliating product, and don’t scrub too hard or too long. Follow exfoliation with a hydrating mask.

Note: This ayurvedic information is educational, and is not intended to replac standard medical care or advice. Consult your physician before making changes to your diet or lifestyle.
Real Estate Links

Real Estate Links, Properties for sale and rent in USA. While not life threatening, it is ugly, unsightly and embarrassing if you're the one that has it.

Because cellulite is primarily caused by fat, reducing the body' s fat content by creating a caloric deficit either by eating less or exercising is the first step for reducing cellulite. However, diet and exercise do not always give women (and some men) the results that they're looking for. This is where treatment options come in.

Cellulite is located right beneath the skin which is why many treatment options involve -treating the fat, -relaxing the bands of connective tissue and -proper skincare. Treating the fat involves both aerobic and anaerobic (muscle conditioning) exercises and proper diet with some caloric restrictions as mentioned above.

There are two treatments that are purported to minimize cellulite by relaxing the bands of connective tissue that "hold" the fat. One is called Endermologie and the other is called VelaSmooth. Endermologie is usually performed in a plastic surgeon or cosmetic dermatologist' s office. It uses a motorized device that that has 2 adjustable rollers with suction that creates smooth and regulated deep tissue mobilization. In order for it to be effective, the client must have several consecutive treatments and then follow up treatments for maintenance. The results are often visible somewhat quickly but are temporary if maintenance isn't done.

VelaSmooth is the newest technology in the realm of cellulite treatments. It uses both infrared red light and radio frequency waves to relax the bands of connective tissue that trap fat and make it appear bumpy. It's non invasive and must be done twice a week for 5 weeks and then monthly. The initial results of VelaSmooth are very promising.

Proper skincare in the cellulite prone areas can reduce it's appearance. There are a number of cellulite creams, gels and lotions that work temporarily to varying degrees. It's important to use these topical treatments as directed. It's also important to make sure that the cream or gel is massaged in well in order to stimulate circulation. Some of these products work better than others so it's a matter of trial and error as well as persistence for topical treatments to work effectively.

Renee Feldman MA http://www.cellulitetips.com is an Exercise Physiologist and one of the first personal trainers in the United States. Her expertise in cellulite reduction was demonstrated on an eight week long TV news segment in San Diego. Now, new studies suggest there are even more advantages, but, this time, they don't involve your taste buds. The latest studies show that green tea benefits skin by helping to repair sun damage, preventing premature aging and enhancing skin tone by promoting new cell growth. Studies also found that green tea may help ward off skin cancer.

To learn whether all this is just hype or the real deal, let's start with the basics.

What is green tea?

Tea comes from the bud of the plant Camelia Sinensis and is available in three main forms: green, black and oolong. While the manufacturing steps for the three teas are similar, the main difference lies in the fermentation process.

While oolong and black teas are oxidated, with green tea the fresh leaves of the tea plant are steamed and quickly dried at elevated temperatures. This helps prevent the breakdown of polyphenols, which are the compounds in tea that contain those very important antioxidants that help fight cancer.

Most polyphenols in green tea are commonly known as catechins, possessing highly potent antioxidant characteristics. The major preventative catechin in green tea polyphenol is epigallocatechin gallate or (EGCG). Other catechins found in green tea are epigallocatechin (EGC), epicatechin 3-gallate (ECG) and epicatechin (EC).

What's all the hype about?

Recent studies suggest that green tea may not only be valuable in fighting cancer, but may also be extremely beneficial to the skin. In one recent study, Dr. Stephen Hsu, a cell biologist in the Medical College of Georgia Department of Oral Biology compared the normal growth of cells with the growth of cells when exposed to EGCG. They discovered that EGCG reactivated dying skin cells.

"Cells that migrate toward the surface of the skin normally live about 28 days, and by day 20, they basically sit on the upper layer of the skin getting ready to die" Dr. Hsu said. "But EGCG reactivates them. I was so surprised"

So, could EGCG be the key to the fountain of youth we have all been looking for? "When exposed to EGCG, the old cells found in the upper layers of the epidermis appear to start dividing again," Dr. Hsu said. "They make DNA and produce more energy. They are reactivated. There are lots of unknowns-this is the first step into the door-but if we can energize dying skin cells, we can probably improve the skin's condition."

Researchers also found that EGCG accelerates the differentiation process among new cells.

Due to these effects of EGCG on skin cells in different layers of the epidermis, Dr. Hsu said that there are potential benefits for skin conditions as diverse as aphthous ulcers, psoriasis, rosascea, wrinkles and wounds. "If skin cells surrounding wounds or infections don't heal in time, fibroblasts in the connective tissue may rush in to fill the void and cause scar tissue formation," he said. "If we can spur the skin cells to differentiate and proliferate, we can potentially accelerate the wound-healing process and prevent scarring."

New research also shows that green tea may play a vital role in preventing skin cancer. Zigang Dong, MD, and colleagues at the University of Minnesota Hormel Institute in Austin, Minn., tested a solution containing polyphenols extracted from green tea on live mice who were exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light. They also performed tests on skin cells from humans and mice cultured in the lab.

The study results show that a protein called JNK-2 seems to be directly related to the development of skin cancer and that the application of polyphenols seem to block this protein.

Dong says that the ideal way to deliver polyphenols to people's skin is through a lotion. He adds that based on past research a person would have to drink as many as ten cups of green tea a day in order to build up enough polyphenol molecules on their skin to produce any benefit.
While sun block filters out UV rays before they penetrate the skin, a lotion containing polyphenols could help prevent skin cancer after sun exposure. "Hopefully we can dissolve the polyphenols in the lotion together with a sun block," Dong said.

Is green tea the key to the fountain of youth?

While more studies are being conducted to determine what other benefits green tea may have for the skin, early research suggests that its impact is profound. Using a product that contains green tea can help repair your skin by minimizing radical-induced skin damage and promoting new cell growth. By including green tea as part of your daily regimen - both by enjoying a cup of tea and using quality green tea skin care products, you will be on your way to a healthier you, both inside and out.

Sources: Stephen Hsu, cell biologist, Medical College of Georgia Department of Oral Biology, Richmond, Georgia, News release, Medical College of Georgia.

Zigang Dong, director, Hormel Institute, Austin, Minn. You can use a highlighter to brighten your makeup. A Highlighter Concealer covers critical areas such as shadows and lines resulting in a natural glow. Apply directly over blusher, mix with blusher, or use just above blusher and around the eyes. Also use under the eyebrows and a touch down the nose. This will significantly brighten the face. After the finish make-up use to cover circles under the eyes, sides of nose, corners of lips and hallows of the chin etc. Blend lightly with your fingertips and brush with powder. The Highlighter can also be applied first, let dry and then apply your normal make-up. For full eyes, use the Highlighter as an eye shadow by applying to the upper end of the eyelid.

------------------------------

2. The most important makeup products that should be used daily are concealer, eyebrow pencil, mascara, and lip color. Concealer will make you look less tired. Eyebrow color will give your eyes more character. Remember, you do raise your brows when you are surprised. Mascara will make your eyes appear larger than they are and more open. Lastly, lipcolor accentuates a lovely smile. Now you´re ready to greet the world.

------------------------------

3. A fresh and natural look in makeup would be wearing a tinted moisturizing cream, a light blush or bronzer for your cheeks, a light coating of mascara and lipgloss. Let your natural beauty show through!

------------------------------

4. Makeup Trick For Red Eyes Try cool cotton compresses with an alcohol free toner. Cucumber slices may be beneficial if you want to try a more natural method. Now for the makeup. Use a minimal amount. Play up your lips instead. Apply a neutral color eyeshadow. If you must wear mascara, opt for a waterproof type, in black or black brown. Skip the colored ones except for navy, which would whiten the whites of your eyes. Try a bright blue pencil below your lower lashes. This should do the trick.

------------------------------

5. "Pretty and sexy" comes from within as well as how you wear your makeup. Wear a minimal amount of makeup, i.e. blush, lipcolor, and mascara. Smile, have a friendly attitude, and you will glow..

------------------------------

6. For someone with copper colored hair, warm earth tones are best. For the eyes wear a bronze or gold eyeshadow with a teak eyeliner. Lipstick in a rust with a gold accent is very pretty.

------------------------------

7. For minor mishaps...Did you smear your mascara? Is your blusher or eyeshadow too dark or the wrong color? For a quick and easy spot removal, use a Q-tip dipped in makeup remover. It´s easy to get into a small area without having to start all over and it works great!

------------------------------

8. For Asian skin tone it´s always good to use foundation and powder with a yellow undertone. Although many Asian women believe they need to wear pink makeup shades to counteract their natural skin tones, this creates a very unnatural, outdated look. Using yellow-based products do not make Asian women look more yellow, but rather they produce a natural, flawless look that is modern and beautiful. see Colosé Caprice Foundation #1 in Taiwan.

------------------------------

9. Cosmetics have "gone bad" if they smell funny or if the formula has separated or dried out. Be especially careful with products used near the eyes as this is a sensitive area. If you suddenly react to a product that you have used faithfully, there may be bacteria forming, and therefore you have a reaction.

------------------------------

10. Products are available to suit both men and women of all skin types. There are four main types of skin that products relate to. Normal skin is healthy and balanced. The secretions of oil, circulation of blood and skin cell replenishment are all normal. Oily skin is caused by over secretion of oil glands, the benefits of this type of skin is that it is less prone to wrinkling. Dry skin is the opposite and is caused when oil glands are under producing, leaving the skin irritable and flaky. Combination skin is the most common.

The face is the most looked after area of skin as this receives the most exposure and recognition. Customers purchase products to prevent premature aging, over solar exposure, serious skin conditions, and other skin problems that are encountered day to day. The face is divided into fourteen different zones, this is known as mapping and these zones are used to determine the correct use and selection of treatments to purchase.

Zones one and three focus on the forehead, this area is affected by the digestive and bladder system. It is recommended to drink more water and eat more whole foods. Zone two is located between the eyebrows, affected by the liver (too much alcohol, rich foods maybe even an allergy). Zones six and eight are around the eyes, affected by the kidneys, usually in correlation to dehydration. Zones five and nine focus on the cheeks, affected by the respiratory system for example smoking and allergies. Zone seven focuses on the nose, affected by blood pressure, while zones eleven and thirteen affect the jaw, which can be due to dental surgery. Finally, zone twelve affects the chin, usually due to a hormonal imbalance, and fourteen relates to the neck.

There are a variety of different products which are developed and marketed to protect and prevent the skin from common problems. For example anti-aging cream should be applied to reduce the risk of wrinkles. This works by hydrating the area.

Colosé focuses on the prevention and manageability of acne and other serious skin care products. Skin care for men focuses on making this predominantly feminine market attractive to males by introducing masculine packaging and scents. Companies focus on using only the finest natural ingredients.

Natural ingredients are greatly in demand at present as they cause less reactions to the skin. Ingredients for example coconut, fruits, almond, plant extracts and organic ingredients have all replaced harsh chemicals previously used.

Whatever the customers individual need, skin type, fragrance, price, sensitivity etc, there is a product available to suit those exact requirements.

Colosé Skin Care Products are available at www.Make-UpUSA.com

Jesse McCartney

a fan site for the talented (and dreamy) singer!

Skincare From Your Fridge

by Allison Saunders

Beauty awaits you. Not at the make-up counter. Not at the day spa. Not at the plastic surgeon. It awaits you… in your kitchen.

Your best skin care secrets can come from your diet secrets. After all, you are what you eat. So, in the words of Italian mothers everywhere… Mangia!

When it comes to eating for beauty, the rule is: the fresher, the better. Avoid processed foods whenever possible. The fresher your foods, the more nutrient packed. Keep that in mind when planning and preparing meals. Shop like the Europeans. Buy what you need for a few days, not an entire week. Cook things healthfully, eat from all food groups and vary your diet.

Eat your veggies.

Fresh vegetables, when available, are preferable to canned or frozen. Raw produce has a greater concentration of vitamins and minerals. Less time at the stove, that‘s attractive.

All vegetables are beneficial. So, if canned is all you’ve got it’ll do. But remember to hit the market tomorrow. Green leafy vegetables are high in beta-carotene which is essential for healthy hair, eyes and skin. Sprouts prevent wrinkles and age spots. Include some on your dinner menu tonight.

Fresh fruit are great for you any time of day.

Sweeten up your breakfast, indulge in a fruity mid-day snack, have a healthy dessert. Cantaloupe is high in vitamins A and C, which promotes healing and controls oil on skin and scalp. Tomatoes (yes, they are a fruit) are packed with A (wrinkle and pimple fighter) and beta-carotene. Citrus fruits provide great doses of vitamin C.

Again, fresh is best. What a sweetly indulgent way to take care of yourself!

Proteins are building blocks.

Turkey, chicken, fish, eggs, lean beef and soy all provide protein and B vitamins which support hair and nail health, and youthful skin. Prepared healthfully, they’ll satisfy your appetite and your form. Fish, like salmon and sardines, are full of protein and Omega 3 which promotes glowing skin.

Drink water.

Lots of water. It purifies you all the way down to your cells, and speeds the regeneration of damaged tissue. So, even if you aren’t at your best now, you soon can be.

Health and happiness equal beauty.

When you eat goof foods, you're nurturing your body. When you’re nurtured, you feel good. When you feel good, you smile. When you smile, you look good. So eat and enjoy your way to a healthier, happier, prettier you.

acne | hair loss | Healthy Weight Control | weight loss patch | lower back pain relief
Need Free Backlinks?

The new revolution in skin care

Scientific breakthroughs continue to revolutionize skin care and the way doctors go about treating many skin-related conditions. But, in a day and age when it seems like we're hearing about new "scientific breakthroughs" almost weekly, it may leave you asking is it all hype, or is there really some truth behind all the claims. The answer lies somewhere in the middle. While some claims have a lot more to do with pushing product than actual science, others have truly evolved because of scientific advances. One such breakthrough involves growth factors, which is changing the way we think about skin care.

What are growth factors?

Growth factors are proteins that bind to receptors on the cell surface, resulting in activating cellular proliferation and/or differentiation. Many growth factors are quite versatile, stimulating cellular division in numerous different cell types.

What do growth factors do?

Growth factors work on a cellular level to enhance cellular growth, repair damaged cells and rejuvenate aging tissue. Growth factors have significant effects on DNA, RNA, wound repair, amino acid uptake, cell migration, cell regeneration, collagen repair and cell division. Studies have shown that growth factors in the body affect individual cells by binding to growth-factor-specific receptors on the cell's surface. Receptor binding initiates a sequence of events inside the cell, leading to the cell nucleus where the required action takes place through its effects on DNA synthesis.

How do growth factors benefit skin?

Growth factors have many positive benefits for the skin. They include:

• Improving skin texture and tone
• Reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
• Diminishing the signs of sun damage and age spots
• Improving the appearance of firmness

Growth factors have also been shown to help speed the recovery and enhance the outcome of cosmetic or surgical procedures such as:

• Dermabrasion or microdermabrasion
• Chemical peels
• Laser or light treatments
• Cosmetic surgery

What growth factor products are on the market?

There are several products already on the market that use the amazing restorative powers of growth factors. They include:

Rhonda Allison Regenerating Cream
Regenerating Cream is a velvety cream that is a beneficial day and night moisturizer. The blend of pumpkin seed oil (rich in Vitamin A), olive oil, and almond oil combined with D-Alpha Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Epidermal Growth Factor, and aloe vera gel gives skin continued regenerating support. It is especially vital after exfoliation of any kind to speed up cell renewal and soothe the skin.

PCA SKIN® pHaze 24 Rejuvenating Serum
Epidermal growth factors help stimulate cell division and proliferation, which leads to healthier skin and faster wound healing. InVitrolon? adds vitamins, amino acids, growth factors and osmoprotectants, which protect the cells from water loss, keeping the skin firmer, smoother and healthier. It is appropriate for all skin types and conditions.

Skintegrity Vitamin C CRS Serum
Growth factors and 20% Vitamin C stimulate collagen and rejuvenate the skin. This is superior therapy for aging skin.

Top Ten Tips for a Healthy, Glowing Skin

Many of us are skin conscious. We often want our skin to look young and healthy and we really do something just to protect our skin from whatever possible harms there may be in our environment. Well, our skin is our largest organ performing several functions. It primarily protects us against the invasion of foreign substances and it serves as the transfer point for the release of toxins from our bodies, thus our skin is just worthy of protection and care.

Now, if you found yourself coveting the gorgeous skin of fashion models and celebrities in most of today’s magazines, here are some tips that will help you on for a beautiful skin.

Tip #1: Drink Water

It is often said that the simplest way to clear and supple skin that is no longer dry is to drink plenty of water. Water has long been considered as the most effective natural treatment or an almost free treatment for any skin condition because of its being alkaline, with pH 7.3. It prevents dehydration which is capable of producing sebum or oil from the sebaceous glands. Your skin needs water in order for it to function best, thus doctors and nutritionists recommend that a daily intake of between 6 to 8 glasses of water per day is highly needed.

Tip #2: Watch Your Diet

Nutrition plays a vital role in skin health too. Specific foods such as those acidic foods and dairy products are said to be potent in causing an allergic reaction in some people. Also, one of the widely debated topics in the area of nutrition today is chocolates. Some say that chocolate does affect the condition of the skin, while others say it doesn’t. Whatever the result may be, the best recommendation is just to follow a nutritious diet that has a number of fresh fruits and green-leafy veggies, as well as fiber.

Tip #3: Consider Exfoliants

Many experts say that exfoliating your skin is another great way to attain a beautiful skin. So, try to invest in a good body exfoliant or “loofah”, as it is commonly called, as it is capable of eliminating the dead skin cells from your body. Accordingly, this should be done once or twice a week so to free the skin to breathe. What’s more, exfoliants help to prevent ingrown hair from developing.

However, it is necessary to avoid using any body exfoliant on the skin on the face. The main reason for this precaution is that the facial tissue is more sensitive and finer than those tissues of the body.

Today, there is a myriad of exfoliating sponges in the market, as well as a number of really good exfoliant gels that are especially formulated for the skin on the face. Nevertheless, one of the necessary things to note is that those people with skin affected by acne should not apply exfoliating gels or sponges, as these may aggravate the acne infection. Try to consider those exfoliating products for acne prone skin in the form of a skin peeling treatment instead. These products are now commonly offered my most salons anywhere in the world. And, perhaps what is best to consider is to consult a skin specialist before undertaking any form of skin peel.

Tip #4: Consider a Healthy Routine for Facial Care

When it comes to facial skin care, getting into a healthy beauty routine is not bad. Most of the doctors today highly recommend that you cleanse, moisturize and tone your skin twice every day. When cleaning, never fail to remember cleaning the area on the neck, including your face. Apply a moisturizer or neck cream after.

Before going to bed at night, always remember to remove all make up. Clean your skin before you sleep, no matter how tired you may feel. It was found out that during the night, the skin goes through a process of elimination and cannot breathe properly if it is clogged with make up. And, you may also find out that sleeping with your make up on will cause your skin to “break out” with spots on it.

When it comes to shaving for men, some men may experience shaving rashes. For many, these rashes lower their self-esteem, but this is actually not a big problem to think about. There are a lot ways to avoid rashes. Perhaps one of the best is to make sure that when shaving, the razor strokes are following the direction of hair growth. That’s simply it!

Also, scarring on the face can sometimes be unsightly. To heal a scar, it is recommended that you use jasmine or neroli essential oils diluted in carrier oil. This is deemed effective for elimination facial scars, and it even works on stretch marks too as well. However, if you noticed that the scar or stretch mark has gone silver or white in color, note that it cannot be removed anymore. And, if it is pinkish or red in color, there is a great possibility that it can be healed.

When it comes to bruises, there are arnica creams and ointments out there that are useful in healing bruises. It is also interesting to know that one way of dealing with bruises fast and effectively is to use Vicks Vaporub on the affected area.

Tip #5: Heal Your Feet

When it comes to skin care, the feet are often neglected. Then, dry them and apply a rough skin remover onto them. Rinse this off and dry you feet well. And, if you consider pedicure, simply add some body cream to your feet for an easy and quick fix pedicure.
Source : skin-care.article-lib.com

Whiter Smile At-Home Teeth Whitening

Whiter Smile and Sunshine Health breakthrough Teeth Whitening technology gives you your most naturally brilliant and healthy smile in under 30 minutes - and it lasts for years.

The Human Touch Massage Chair

The Human Touch Massage Chair is the flagship massage recliner of Interactive Health and endorsed by the Association of Chiropractic Orthopedists.

Skin Toners: The Way Nature Intended

There is a lot of debate surrounding the effectiveness and necessity of skin toners.

So, if care you found no time for a professional pedicure, try to fill a football or basin with warm water and add your favorite essential oil. Soak your feet for about fifteen minutes. Then, dry them and apply a rough skin remover onto them. Rinse this off and dry you feet well. And, if you consider pedicure, simply add some body cream to your feet for an easy and quick fix pedicure.
Source : Skincare Article

Skin Care Tek
An informational site to help those looking for skin care products. Everyday care and moisturizing helps your skin in a very long run. It can make a good amount of difference once you start taking care of your skin. When I say skin it doesn’t mean your face is the only thing that has to be taken care and you should take care of your whole body.

Before getting any of the home remedies done on your face you should see to it that you are not allergic to any of these fruits or vegetables.

Taking care of your skin by use of some natural home remedies can be of great help. To get rid of scars and tan you can scrub lime with granules of sugar which would help in lightening your skin and also removing the dead cells which are present.

For smooth skin other things which can be done is to apply bananas mashed with milk and keep it for 20 minutes which would help in making your skin very smooth and supple. Egg and honey is also a very good combination which when applied would reduce your wrinkles and you could see a good change in a short while.

Sliced potatoes are also good if applied on your face and skin as it reduces blemishes and other scars. Turmeric has lot of healing capacity and if mixed with milk and applied on your face makes your skin smooth and also reduces the amount of wrinkles.

Cucumber juice a powerful astringent is also very good as it tightens your face and if kept for 15 minutes you can easily see the result. Turmeric powder mixed with turmeric powder is a very good bleaching agent and could easily help in removing the tan once you have been out in the sun.
Article By : Kevin Pederson

Authorized Distributor of Jane Iredale Skincare Makeup and La Roche-Posay Skincare
European Beauty Secrets strives to provide its customers with only the finest physician quality skincare and cosmetic products. It’s a great look for summer, and you can get it without hanging out at the beach all day!

Hydration

Be sure to drink enough fluid. Just because you are not thirsty doesn’t mean you don’t need water. Even a slight deficit reduces circulation, dries out your lips and causes fatigue. Plus, inadequate water intake encourages fluid retention, which leads to bloating and puffy undereye areas -- all bad news for your looks. So drink up. Nutritionists say, at least one half ounce daily for every pound of body weight. For the average person, that’s eight glasses a day.

Also, frequent showering and summer activities like swimming will dry out your skin. So the moisturizers and body lotions are just as important now as in winter.

Nutrition

Hot weather means the additional loss of vitamins and minerals through perspiration. This can leave your skin vulnerable to environmental stress. Replace what you’ve lost by taking a multivitamin daily. And insist on rich vitamin A and E content in your skincare products. These may be listed as retinyl palmitate and tocopheryl acetate in the ingredient statement.

Skin Care

The key to a natural, breezy beauty lies in the care of your complexion, not the makeup you put on top of it. Every night you should follow the same basic skin care regimen. Steam your pores open with a hot washcloth, and then apply a glycerin based cleanser (they’re easier on the skin). Use an alcohol-free toner. I prefer astringents with natural Witch Hazel, to remove residue, tighten pores and rebalance the skin. And don’t forget to moisturize! Performed routinely, these skin care fundamentals will lead you to a fresh, dewy, blemish-free complexion.

Sun Protection

Sunscreen is recommended year round, but especially in summer to avoid that leathery, toasted look to the skin. Use a minimum SPF 15 protection not only on your face, but anywhere skin is exposed. Don’t forget your neck, chest, and the back of your hands. Wear sunglasses to avoid squinting and deepening the lines around your eyes.

Make Up

With fresh looking, healthy skin to start, you can keep your makeup simple. Choose pink or coral lipstick, natural blush and soft eyeshadows. Use bronzer if you need a touch of color. You can also lightly dust blush on your cheeks, chin and forehead for a warm, healthy glow. Adding highlights to your hair will make it seem as though you’ve spent a lot of time in the sun.

One thing I love about the "California Look" is how little time it takes -- just a few minutes of skin care at night, and a few minutes of makeup in the morning. But the real beauty is: the good skin care habits outlined above will also protect you against needless visible aging!

Eczema, Treatments and Cure

Resources on the skin condition Eczema, including what it is and how to treat it.

Affiliate Program

Find relevant affiliate programs to promote by searching through our comprehensive directory.

self improvement author

Our Success Partnership is a self-improvement ezine and blog that discusses in real-life terms how you can leading a wealthy and successful life.

Questions and Answers About Acne

This article contains general information about acne. It describes what acne is and how it develops, the causes of acne, and the treatment options for various forms of acne. Information is also provided on caring for the skin. If you have further questions after reading this article, you may wish to discuss them with your doctor.

What Is Acne?

Acne is a disorder resulting from the action of hormones on the skin's oil glands (sebaceous glands), which leads to plugged pores and outbreaks of lesions commonly called pimples or zits. Acne lesions usually occur on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders. Nearly 17 million people in the United States have acne, making it the most common skin disease. Although acne is not a serious health threat, severe acne can lead to disfiguring, permanent scarring, which can be upsetting to people who are affected by the disorder.

How Does Acne Develop?

Doctors describe acne as a disease of the pilosebaceous units (PSUs). Found over most of the body, PSUs consist of a sebaceous gland connected to a canal, called a follicle, that contains a fine hair (see "Normal Pilosebaceous Unit" diagram, below). These units are most numerous on the face, upper back, and chest. The sebaceous glands make an oily substance called sebum that normally empties onto the skin surface through the opening of the follicle, commonly called a pore. Cells called keratinocytes line the follicle.

Normal Pilosebaceous Unit

The hair, sebum, and keratinocytes that fill the narrow follicle may produce a plug, which is an early sign of acne. The plug prevents sebum from reaching the surface of the skin through a pore. The mixture of oil and cells allows bacteria Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) that normally live on the skin to grow in the plugged follicles. These bacteria produce chemicals and enzymes and attract white blood cells that cause inflammation. (Inflammation is a characteristic reaction of tissues to disease or injury and is marked by four signs: swelling, redness, heat, and pain.) When the wall of the plugged follicle breaks down, it spills everything into the nearby skin--sebum, shed skin cells, and bacteria--leading to lesions or pimples.

People with acne frequently have a variety of lesions, some of which are shown in the diagrams below. The basic acne lesion, called the comedo (KOM-e-do), is simply an enlarged and plugged hair follicle. If the plugged follicle, or comedo, stays beneath the skin, it is called a closed comedo and produces a white bump called a whitehead. A comedo that reaches the surface of the skin and opens up is called a blackhead because it looks black on the skin's surface. This black discoloration is not due to dirt. Both whiteheads and blackheads may stay in the skin for a long time.

Types of Lesions

Other troublesome acne lesions can develop, including the following:

Papules--inflamed lesions that usually appear as small, pink bumps on the skin and can be tender to the touch

Pustules (pimples)--papules topped by pus-filled lesions that may be red at the base

Nodules--large, painful, solid lesions that are lodged deep within the skin

Cysts--deep, painful, pus-filled lesions that can cause scarring.

What Causes Acne?

The exact cause of acne is unknown, but doctors believe it results from several related factors. One important factor is an increase in hormones called androgens (male sex hormones). These increase in both boys and girls during puberty and cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge and make more sebum. Hormonal changes related to pregnancy or starting or stopping birth control pills can also cause acne.

Another factor is heredity or genetics. Researchers believe that the tendency to develop acne can be inherited from parents. For example, studies have shown that many school-age boys with acne have a family history of the disorder. Certain drugs, including androgens and lithium, are known to cause acne. Greasy cosmetics may alter the cells of the follicles and make them stick together, producing a plug.

Factors That Can Make Acne Worse

Factors that can cause an acne flare include:

* Changing hormone levels in adolescent girls and adult women 2 to 7 days before their menstrual period starts
* Friction caused by leaning on or rubbing the skin
* Pressure from bike helmets, backpacks, or tight collars
* Environmental irritants, such as pollution and high humidity
* Squeezing or picking at blemishes
* Hard scrubbing of the skin.

Myths About the Causes of Acne

There are many myths about what causes acne. Chocolate and greasy foods are often blamed, but foods seem to have little effect on the development and course of acne in most people. Another common myth is that dirty skin causes acne; however, blackheads and other acne lesions are not caused by dirt. Finally, stress does not cause acne.

Who Gets Acne?

People of all races and ages get acne. It is most common in adolescents and young adults. Nearly 85 percent of people between the ages of 12 and 24 develop the disorder. For most people, acne tends to go away by the time they reach their thirties; however, some people in their forties and fifties continue to have this skin problem.

How Is Acne Treated?

Acne is often treated by dermatologists (doctors who specialize in skin problems). These doctors treat all kinds of acne, particularly severe cases. Doctors who are general or family practitioners, pediatricians, or internists may treat patients with milder cases of acne.

The goals of treatment are to heal existing lesions, stop new lesions from forming, prevent scarring, and minimize the psychological stress and embarrassment caused by this disease. Drug treatment is aimed at reducing several problems that play a part in causing acne: abnormal clumping of cells in the follicles, increased oil production, bacteria, and inflammation. Depending on the extent of the person's acne, the doctor will recommend one of several over-the-counter (OTC) medicines or prescription medicines that are topical (applied to the skin) or systemic (taken by mouth). The doctor may suggest using more than one topical medicine or combining oral and topical medicines.

Treatment for Blackheads, Whiteheads, and Mild Inflammatory Acne

Doctors usually recommend an OTC or prescription topical medication for people with mild signs of acne. Topical medicine is applied directly to the acne lesions or to the entire area of affected skin.

Benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, salicylic acid, and sulfur are the most common topical OTC medicines used to treat acne. Each works a little differently. Benzoyl peroxide is best at killing P. acnes and may reduce oil production. Resorcinol, salicylic acid, and sulfur help break down blackheads and whiteheads. Salicylic acid also helps cut down the shedding of cells lining the follicles of the oil glands. Topical OTC medications are available in many forms, such as gel, lotion, cream, soap, or pad.

In some patients, OTC acne medicines may cause side effects such as skin irritation, burning, or redness. Some people find that the side effects lessen or go away with continued use of the medicine. Severe or prolonged side effects should be reported to the doctor.

OTC topical medicines are somewhat effective in treating acne when used regularly. Patients must keep in mind that it can take 8 weeks or more before they notice their skin looks and feels better.

Treatment for Moderate to Severe Inflammatory Acne

Patients with moderate to severe inflammatory acne may be treated with prescription topical or oral medicines, alone or in combination.

Prescription Topical Medicines

Several types of prescription topical medicines are used to treat acne, including antibiotics, benzoyl peroxide, tretinoin, adapalene, and azelaic acid. Antibiotics and azelaic acid help stop or slow the growth of bacteria and reduce inflammation. Tretinoin, a type of drug called a retinoid that contains an altered form of vitamin A, is an effective topical medicine for stopping the development of new comedones. It works by unplugging existing comedones, thereby allowing other topical medicines, such as antibiotics, to enter the follicles. The doctor may also prescribe newer retinoids or retinoid-like drugs, such as tazarotene or adapalene, that help decrease comedo formation.

Like OTC topical medicines, prescription topical medicines come as creams, lotions, solutions, or gels. The doctor will consider the patient's skin type when prescribing a product. Creams and lotions provide moisture and tend to be good for people with sensitive skin. Gels and solutions are generally alcohol based and tend to dry the skin. Therefore, patients with very oily skin or those who live in hot, humid climates may prefer them. The doctor will tell the patient how to apply the medicine and how often to use it.

Some people develop side effects from using prescription topical medicines. Initially, the skin may look worse before improving. Common side effects include stinging, burning, redness, peeling, scaling, or discoloration of the skin. With some medicines, like retinoids, these side effects usually decrease or go away after the medicine is used for a period of time. Patients should report prolonged or severe side effects to their doctor. Between 4 and 8 weeks will most likely pass before patients see their skin improve.

Prescription Oral Medicines

For patients with moderate to severe acne, the doctor often prescribes oral antibiotics (taken by mouth). Oral antibiotics are thought to help control acne by curbing the growth of bacteria and reducing inflammation. Prescription oral and topical medicines may be combined. For example, benzoyl peroxide may be combined with clindamycin, erythromycin, or sulfur. Other common antibiotics used to treat acne are tetracycline, minocycline, and doxycycline. Some people have side effects when taking these antibiotics, such as an increased tendency to sunburn, upset stomach, dizziness or lightheadedness, and changes in skin color. Tetracycline is not given to pregnant women, nor is it given to children under 8 years of age because it might discolor developing teeth. Tetracycline and minocycline may also decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills. Therefore, a backup or another form of birth control may be needed. Prolonged treatment with oral antibiotics may be necessary to achieve the desired results.

Treatment for Severe Nodular or Cystic Acne

People with nodules or cysts should be treated by a dermatologist. For patients with severe inflammatory acne that does not improve with medicines such as those described above, a doctor may prescribe isotretinoin (Accutane*), a retinoid. Isotretinoin is an oral drug that is usually taken once or twice a day with food for 15 to 20 weeks. It markedly reduces the size of the oil glands so that much less oil is produced. As a result, the growth of bacteria is decreased.

* Brand names included in this article are provided as examples only, and their inclusion does not mean that these products are endorsed by the National Institutes of Health or any other Government agency. Also, if a particular brand name is not mentioned, this does not mean or imply that the product is unsatisfactory.

Advantages of Isotretinoin (Accutane)

Isotretinoin is a very effective medicine that can help prevent scarring. After 15 to 20 weeks of treatment with isotretinoin, acne completely or almost completely goes away in up to 90 percent of patients. In those patients where acne recurs after a course of isotretinoin, the doctor may institute another course of the same treatment or prescribe other medicines.

Disadvantages of Isotretinoin (Accutane)

Isotretinoin can cause birth defects in the developing fetus of a pregnant woman. It is important that women of childbearing age are not pregnant and do not get pregnant while taking this medicine. Women must use two separate effective forms of birth control at the same time for 1 month before treatment begins, during the entire course of treatment, and for 1 full month after stopping the drug. They should ask their doctor when it is safe to get pregnant after they have stopped taking Accutane.

Some people with acne become depressed by the changes in the appearance of their skin. Changes in mental health may be intensified during treatment or soon after completing a course of medicines like Accutane. A doctor should be consulted if a person feels unusually sad or has other symptoms of depression, such as loss of appetite or trouble concentrating.

Other possible side effects include dry eyes, mouth, lips, nose, or skin; itching; nosebleeds; muscle aches; sensitivity to the sun; and, sometimes, poor night vision. More serious side effects include changes in the blood, such as an increase in triglycerides and cholesterol, or a change in liver function. To make sure Accutane is stopped if side effects occur, the doctor monitors blood studies that are done before treatment is started and periodically during treatment. Side effects usually go away after the medicine is stopped.

Treatments for Hormonally Influenced Acne in Women

Clues that help the doctor determine whether acne in an adult woman is due to an excess of androgen hormones are hirsutism (excessive growth of hair in unusual places), premenstrual acne flares, irregular menstrual cycles, and elevated blood levels of certain androgens. The doctor may prescribe one of several drugs to treat women with this type of acne. Low-dose estrogen birth control pills help suppress the androgen produced by the ovaries. Low-dose corticosteroid drugs, such as prednisone or dexamethasone, may suppress the androgen produced by the adrenal glands. Finally, the doctor may prescribe an antiandrogen drug, such as spironolactone (Aldactone). This medicine reduces excessive oil production. Side effects of antiandrogen drugs may include irregular menstruation, tender breasts, headache, and fatigue.

Other Treatments for Acne

Doctors may use other types of procedures in addition to drug therapy to treat patients with acne. For example, the doctor may remove the patient's comedones during office visits. Sometimes the doctor will inject cortisone directly into lesions to help reduce the size and pain of inflamed cysts and nodules.

Early treatment is the best way to prevent acne scars. Once scarring has occurred, the doctor may suggest a medical or surgical procedure to help reduce the scars. A superficial laser may be used to treat irregular scars. Another kind of laser allows energy to go deeper into the skin and tighten the underlying tissue and plump out depressed scars. Dermabrasion (or microdermabrasion), which is a form of "sanding down" scars, is sometimes combined with the subsurface laser treatment. Another treatment option for deep scars caused by cystic acne is the transfer of fat from one part of the body to the face.

How Should People With Acne Care for Their Skin?

Clean Skin Gently

Most doctors recommend that people with acne gently wash their skin with a mild cleanser, once in the morning and once in the evening and after heavy exercise. Some people with acne may try to stop outbreaks and oil production by scrubbing their skin and using strong detergent soaps and rough scrub pads. However, scrubbing will not improve acne; in fact, it can make the problem worse. Patients should ask their doctor or another health professional for advice on the best type of cleanser to use. Patients should wash their face from under the jaw to the hairline. It is important that patients thoroughly rinse their skin after washing it. Astringents are not recommended unless the skin is very oily, and then they should be used only on oily spots. Doctors also recommend that patients regularly shampoo their hair. Those with oily hair may want to shampoo it every day.

Avoid Frequent Handling of the Skin

People who squeeze, pinch, or pick their blemishes risk developing scars or dark blotches. People should avoid rubbing and touching their skin lesions.

Shave Carefully

Men who shave and who have acne can test both electric and safety razors to see which is more comfortable. Men who use a safety razor should use a sharp blade and soften their beard thoroughly with soap and water before applying shaving cream. Nicking blemishes can be avoided by shaving lightly and only when necessary.

Avoid a Sunburn or Suntan

Many of the medicines used to treat acne can make a person more prone to sunburn. A sunburn that reddens the skin or suntan that darkens the skin may make blemishes less visible and make the skin feel drier. However, these benefits are only temporary, and there are known risks of excessive sun exposure, such as more rapid skin aging and a risk of developing skin cancer.

Choose Cosmetics Carefully

People being treated for acne often need to change some of the cosmetics they use. All cosmetics, such as foundation, blush, eye shadow, and moisturizers, should be oil free. Patients may find it difficult to apply foundation evenly during the first few weeks of treatment because the skin may be red or scaly, particularly with the use of topical tretinoin or benzoyl peroxide. Oily hair products may eventually spread over the forehead, causing closed comedones. Products that are labeled as noncomedogenic (do not promote the formation of closed pores) should be used; in some people, however, even these products may cause acne.

What Research Is Being Done on Acne?

Medical researchers are working on new drugs to treat acne, particularly topical antibiotics to replace some of those in current use. As with many other types of bacterial infections, doctors are finding that, over time, the bacteria that are associated with acne are becoming resistant to treatment with certain antibiotics. Research is also being conducted by industry on the potential side effects of isotretinoin and the long-term use of medicines used for treating acne.

Scientists are working on other means of treating acne. For example, researchers are studying the biology of sebaceous cells and testing a laser in laboratory animals to treat acne by disrupting sebaceous glands. Scientists are also studying the treatment of androgenic disorders, including acne, in men by inhibiting an enzyme that changes testosterone to a more potent androgen.

Stationary Exercise Bikes Reviews & Ratings

Indepth reviews of exercise bikes by experts

BY THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF ARTHRITIS AND MUSCULOSKELETAL AND SKIN DISEASES

Gerbil Care

Discover the secrets to caring for gerbils

How To Apply Your Makeup

STEP 1: FOUNDATION: After Cleansing, Toning and Moisturizing your face apply a small amount of foundation to the tip of your index finger, dot on forehead, nose, cheeks and chin then blend in an upward and outward motion without leaving a line. Be sure to apply foundation over your eyelids and blend without leaving a line. Glance in the mirror to ensure there's no line. You can use a concealer to cover imperfections such as blemishes and dark spots. You can use our NATU-CLEAR to remove dark spots, even skin tone and skin discoloration.

STEP 2: TRANSLUCENT POWDER: Using a Powder Brush apply Translucent Powder in a downward motion for a smooth finish. Translucent Powder helps eye makeup and blush to go on smoother and blend better. It also keeps your face looking fresh and your Makeup will last longer.

STEP 3 EYE MAKEUP: Starting at your lash line, apply your Base Color first, then apply your crease color in the crease area. Apply your Highlight Color in the highlight color area, below the brow bone. Finally, blend the colors with a cotton ball or your fingertip to remove any obvious line. If the colors are too bright tone them down with a little Translucent Powder then apply your Mascara, and dust your entire face downward with Translucent Powder.

STEP 4 BLUSH: Your Blush should go on the apples of your cheeks to radiate when you smile. It should go no closer to your nose, but directly beneath the iris of your eye; below nostril-level and into your temple hairline. A good Blush Brush that's tapered for precise placement, is a must.

STEP 5 LIPSTICKS: Define the outline of your lips with a professional lip brush or lip liner pencil that closely matches the color of your lipstick. Then apply your lipstick and blend the liner with a lip brush. Start from the center working outwards.

Adult Acne

Adult acne treatment and suggestions. You can still get a sweet treatment. All-natural honey has been used as a beauty product since the days of Cleopatra and it continues to be used today in manufactured and homemade products for skin and hair care. Honey is a natural humectant, which means it has the ability to attract and retain moisture. The skin’s ability to stay moist (or hydrated) is an important factor in its ability to maintain softness, suppleness and elasticity. As skin ages, or as it is exposed to environmental stresses and chemical agents, it loses its ability to retain water; it becomes dry and appears wrinkled. Honey’s natural hydrating properties make it ideal for use in moisturizing products. Because is also suitable for sensitive skin products.

Studies have also revealed that honey has significant natural antioxidant properties. Antioxidants play a role in protecting the skin from the damage of UV rays, and aiding in skin rejuvenation. Prolonged exposure to the sun’s UV radiation can cause skin damage, premature aging and even skin cancer. The Cosmetics, Toiletries and Fragrance Association reports that, because chemical and physical barrier sunscreens can cause skin irritation, companies are researching the use of antioxidants, anti-irritants and moisturizers in sun care products. Honey has potentialfor use in these products.

A recent review of medical research documents honey’s effectiveness as an antimicrobial agent. Antimicrobial agents inhibit the growth of certain bacteria. According to Janice Cox, author of Natural Beauty at Home, "Honey’s antimicrobial properties make it useful for the treatment of minor acne flare-ups. Also, unlike some acne treatments, honey doesn’t dry the skin." Honey is antimicrobial for many reasons, including its high sugar content, which limits the amount of water available to bacteria for growth; its relatively high acidity (low pH); and its low protein content, which deprives bacteria of nitrogen needed for growth. The presence in honey of hydrogen peroxide, and the antioxidants honey contains, also inhibit bacterial growth.

Honey’s prospects in skin care are looking even sweeter; research is currently underway to develop a process using honey to create alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). AHAs are an important ingredient in many skin creams and moisturizers because they help exfoliate the skin. Exfoliation increases the renewal of the skin cells and gives skin a younger, more vibrant look. Exfoliation can also cause skin irritation, so honey’s natural moisturizing ability makes it a perfect fit for AHA products.

Soothing Skin Clarifier (for minor acne flare-ups)

Mix 1/2 cup warm water with 1/4 teaspoon salt. Using a cotton ball, apply directly to blemish. Maintain pressure with cotton ball for several minutes, to soften blemish. Using a cotton swab, dab honey on blemish; leave on 10 minutes. Rinse and pat dry.

Firming Facial Mask

Whisk together 1 tablespoon honey, 1 egg white, 1 teaspoon glycerin (available at drug and beauty stores) and enough flour to form a paste. Smooth over face and throat. Leave on 10 minutes. Wash off with warm water.

Hair Conditioner

Mix 1/2 cup honey with 1/4 cup olive oil. Here are some ideas and information to help you have radiant, healthy skin. Start a new skin care program now to ensure great results.

Background Information

Your skin is the body’s largest organ, weighing between two and four kilos. It covers between one and two square metres and completely renews itself every seven to ten weeks.
Your skin reflects your state of health, being soft and smooth when well cared for, or dry and flaky when taken for granted. To have beautiful, soft, young-looking skin, pamper it.

Tips on skin care

* Drink 2 litres of water daily
* Enjoy a diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables
* Try to have a sound, restful sleep
* Take high quality supplements, including a vitamin & mineral and an Omega 3 essential fatty acids
* Practice a daily skin care regime
* Know your skin type
* Exercise regularly
* Keep stress levels to a minimum
* Limit intake of caffeine and alcohol
* Avoid excess exposure to extremes of temperature

Daily Skin Care Regime

Men and women will see a marked improvement in their skin when following a skincare plan. Cleanse, tone and moisturise daily. Exfoliate and use a mask regularly.

Cleanse your face and neck, morning and night. Accumulated dead cells, perspiration and make-up mixed with the grime in the atmosphere, clogs up our pores resulting in a dull and lifeless appearance.

After cleansing use a toner to remove the last traces of cleanser, tighten and tone the pores.

Next apply moisturizer. Pollution, sunlight, harsh weather, air conditioning and central heating dehydrates the skin. This causes dry and dull skin. Two litres of water daily will hydrate your skin internally. You should also add moisture from the outside. A moisturizer will help prevent your skin’s moisture from evaporating into the atmosphere. All skin types need moisturizers.

Extras to ensure a radiant skin

An exfoliant removes dead cells from the skin’s surface. This enhances production of new cells. It improves blood circulation, giving the skin a healthy glow.

Eye creams are designed for the sensitive areas around the eye. Choose one that reduces puffiness, dark circles and wrinkles.

Day and a night creams have different formulations to improve skin elasticity, texture and appearance. During the night your skin needs a special cream to rehydrate and rejuvenate skin cells ensuring you wake up with a refreshed, softer complexion.

When showering use a soapfree body wash. This is gentler on the skin and cuts down on cleaning the shower recess!!

Apply a lotion, or spray on, body moisturizer to your whole body after showering.

Follow this regime and you will have beautiful skin forever.
Article By : Cheryl Haining

Beauty and Raw Food

One of the best ways to improve the appearance of your skin is by incorporating raw food into your diet. Beautiful skin starts from the inside out. People who switch to eating mostly raw food often see an improvement in their skin and look younger.

Heating food above 105 degrees Fahrenheit destroys the enzymes as well as 50% of the protein and 70-90% of the vitamins and minerals. Eating cooked food overtaxes the body’s enzyme reserves. Eating more raw food decreases the amount of digestive enzymes your body has to produce. Raw foods are foods in their natural state with the enzymes left intact.

Enzymes are needed to perform many functions in the body including digestion, assimilation and elimination of food. A drained enzyme supply can result in vitamin and mineral deficiencies, premature aging and low energy. Raw foods high in enzymes include sprouts, papaya and pineapple.

Free radicals damage your skin and interfere with collagen production causing premature aging.

Antioxidants counteract free radicals that age the skin. Berries, especially blueberries, are potent antioxidants that promote collagen which reduces wrinkles. Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons and grapefruit help rid the body of free radicals keeping the skin looking young. Foods high in the antioxidant beta carotene including carrots and apricots protect the skin against sun damage.

CoenzymeQ10 is an effective antioxidant involved in the energy process and present in every cell in the body. CoQ10 levels in the body diminish with age. CoQ10 destroys free radicals and slows aging. Spinach, broccoli and peanuts are foods high in CoQ10.

Alpha-lipoic acid is a powerful antioxidant that boosts the strength of other antioxidants such as Vitamin C and E, and assists the body’s energy production. Alpha-lipoic acid can be found in spinach, brewer’s yeast, broccoli, tomatoes and peas.

Sulfur is a mineral present in every cell in your body. It is needed in collagen production and for healthy skin, hair and nails. Organic sulfur levels in food are lost when processed, heated or dried. Sulfur is known to help improve skin conditions such as acne. High sulfur content foods include asparagus, broccoli, hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, red pepper, garlic, onion, watercress and kale.

Silicon is an essential trace mineral needed for healthy skin, hair, nails and bones. Silicon levels decrease with age. Fruits and vegetables are the richest source of silicon including apples, oranges, cherries, grapes, strawberries, beets, cucumber, carrots and green leafy vegetables.

Phytochemicals are plant chemicals that help the body defend against damage and are said to have anti-aging properties. Phytochemicals can be found in berries, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, spinach, carrots, cocoa and bell pepper.

Raw nuts and seeds are high in Vitamin E which is beneficial to the skin. Selenium keeps the skin elastic and can be found in garlic, onions and shallots.

When the body rids itself of toxins, it passes through the skin which is the largest elimination organ. Raw food increases your detoxification rate. Drinking water helps the body rid itself of toxins. Seaweed is high in vitamins and minerals beneficial to the skin and also helps rid the body of toxins.

To achieve a healthy complexion, drink plenty of water and eat plenty of raw food. What goes into your body is reflective in your overall appearance.

Siabetes Type 1

On this site you will learn how to treat your diabetes with a diet plan customized to the type of diabetes you have.

Paid Surveys

Get free information and details to more than 500 paid online survey companies that will pay you cash money to take online paid surveys. Leave in hair for 15 minutes.

To polish up those patchy remnants of a tan, bring your loofah into the bath with you, and add one of these ingredients to speed up the exfoliating process:

3/4 cup of lemon juice added to your bath water helps to bleach a fading tan and smooth away flaky skin. Or, you can mix a paste with lemon juice plus salt or sugar. Leave on the skin for 30 minutes and rinse dry, dead skin off with it!

Oatmeal is great for soothing a sunburn as well as for exfoliating. It doesn't matter if you have oily skin, dry skin, combination skin, normal skin or even sensitive skin; all of these tips will work for you.

To minimize wrinkles, sleep on your back. When you sleep on your back, the effect of gravity on your skin is minimal. Besides, when your face is pressed against a pillow, you wake up to more puffiness.

Do Not go outside without sunscreen, even if it is for a short period of time, or on a cloudy day. This is absolute Best thing that you can possibly do to prevent wrinkles.

If your skin has a tendency to break out or get bumps, it could be your detergent. Try using with no dyes or perfumes.

No matter what your skin type is, the best cleanser is one that is water-soluble. For it to be truly water soluble, it should be able to be removed easily by splashing, and not wiped off with a wash cloth. Wash clothes can cause irritation to the skin. It should not leave a greasy residue, nor cause any irritation or dryness, nor burn your eyes.

To refresh your face after a long day, spritz some mineral water on it. You can also use a light spritz to set your makeup.

Warm skin absorbs ingredients in your products better. Make sure that your skin isn't cold. If so, apply a warm towel to your face.

If you use an alpha hydroxy acid, let it dry thoroughly before applying moisturizer. This will maximize the effectiveness of the AHA.

Be careful not to use an exfoliant or scrub too often. It can lead to irritation. For dry skin, 1-2 times per week is enough. For oily skin, 2-3 times per week is enouh.

All makeup lasts longer and looks better if you apply it to slightly moist skin. Dry patches alter the distribution of pigment. Before applying foundation, mist your face with water and pat with a tissue. You want it to be be slightly damp, not drenched.

My final and I feel most important tip: What you do today to take care of your skin will determine how young and healthy it will look five and ten years from now.

Bogar for Health and Beauty

Bogar for a total touch of beauty: Health, acne, skin care, teeth whitening, massage, facial, waxing, permanent make up, cellulites and hair removal.

By Marylee Evans

Link Exchange

Blue Glass Bottles for Blue Solar Water

Blue Glass Bottles to Make Hawaiian Ho'oponopono Blue Solar Water as Suggested in Zero Limits by Joe Vitale and Ihaleakala Hew Len.
